Augusta’s Friedman Branch Library has received $1.5 million in renovations and will host its grand opening on April 14.

The Friedman Branch Library got some upgrades this year and the library’s staff is celebrating the occasion alongside Augusta leaders.

The library is officially unveiling its latest renovations with a grand reopening at 9:30 am Friday. Augusta Commissioners Francine Scott and Bobby Williams, as well as former Augusta mayor Hardie Davis, will be among the special guests helping cut the ribbon.

The renovations were a $1.5 million project meant to create a more warm, inviting, user-friendly atmosphere at the library, according to the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System Spokesperson Diondra Blocker. Some of the changes include a new interior paint job, increasing the window size in the children’s reading area, adding computers for adults and children, and reframing the door to the men’s public restroom to make it handicap accessible.

This project was funded by the Georgia Public Library Service through a construction grant and by local funds from Augusta.

The Friedman Branch is located at 1477 Jackson Rd.
